Safe Zone Training
 

The objective of Safe Zone training for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness is to create a supportive, inclusive, and affirming environment for LGBTQIA individuals within homeless services. The training aims to equip staff, volunteers, and service providers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to foster a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA youth and young adults. 

  • Intentions of training - why inclusivity is important
  • Identities exist on a spectrum
  • The term "queer" and what it means to the community
  • Explaining labels (e.g., various nonbinary identities)
  • An overview of intersectionality
  • Colonialism/enslavement & cisheteropatriarchy
  • Vocabulary review/overview
  • How to be an effective & inclusive ally in your language, relationships, & interactions
  • Incorporating these learnings specifically into working with unhoused community members
  • Incorporating these learning specifically into working with youth
  • Actualizing next steps for how to implement these learnings into the workplace

This 3 hour training will be held on Zoom, April 13th from 12pm to 2pm
